Protected by Unesco as a world heritage place (togheter with Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto isles, and Cinque Terre) Portovenere is a tiny, enchanting maritime village, inhabited since ancient times by fishermen. Its name come froma an old temple dedicated to Venus (who was said to be born by sea foam).

The castle (1113), the surrounding wall (1161) , the tower houses, as well as the little streets, the many tiny shops, and the marvellous sea (Portovenere gives his name to the homonym Natural Park ) convey to Portovenere its enchanting and evocative charm. A tourist destination all year round.
